By mistake, I first bought Printmaster Platinum 2012.BAD CHOICE! It is not an upgraded version and would not let me bring over my previous projects and would only print a full page of labels, postcards, business cards, etc. As an aside, I have found that anything that works on Windows 7 will work on Windows 8. Although Windows 8 is not mentioned in the requirements to run this software, I decided to take a chance and am very pleased that I did. I am happy that PrintMaster kept the features that I am familiar with while upgrading and adding more choices, especially in the fonts and images. Found this on Amazon much cheaper than other sites. My older version would not work on Windows 8. I have been a PrintMaster user for many years. I'd have given it five stars, had it not been for the somewhat confusing, and not always accurate instructions for the initialization error that I got. It seems they could have made it easier and clearer, but I finally stumbled through the process, and the program appears to be working perfectly now. I was able to solve it by troubleshooting via the Borderbund website. This version DOES work, and it's cheap! The second time I booted it up I got a 'The collection 'Your Own Projects' can not be initialized' error. I'd been without it for nine months, ever since I got a new computer with Win7 ~ 64 bit, as my older program wouldn't work with it. I have purchased several versions over the years. I taught myself Print Master many, many years ago, and have always enjoyed the ease of use and flexibility. This is just a bad program unless you are ok with using your photo as is just to make greeting cards or craft projects. You cannot change the size of the new window, you cannot go full screen to see where you might want to edit out a flaw. When I did FINALLY find Photo Editing, I especially hated that to edit a photo you want to change, a pop up window appears with a much SMALLER version of your selected photo. The program should assume you want to perfect your photo BEFORE you use it in a project. Photo editing should be in the forefront easy to find before all the projects. The Print Master program assumes all you want to do is make posters & greeting cards, anything but simply get the red eye out of your photo before you print it.
Wish someone would do a better software for the snapshots or just bring Picture It back as it was a great amateur photography program.
In other words photos were the main focus for Picture It, not arts and crafts. Of course it also had label and greeting card projects among other things. THAT software was perfect, easy to navigate, no navigation constraints just plain editing, if that's all you wanted to do. I've been looking for a decent replacement for Microsoft's Picture It software. Yet another photo editing program that doesn't give the user control over how they choose to edit and print their own photos.
